Schumacher attends daughter's wedding in first public outing
Michael Schumacher has reportedly made his first public appearance in 11 years, attending his daughter Gina-Maria's wedding in Majorca.
A family affair
The occasion that brought the German racing icon back into the spotlight was none other than the wedding of his daughter, Gina-Maria Schumacher, to Iain Bethke.
The intimate ceremony, held at the family's villa in Majorca last Saturday, saw Schumacher reunite with friends and family in a carefully orchestrated event that prioritized the F1 legend's privacy.
Schumacher's brother, Ralf, was among the attendees, accompanied by his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne.
The latter shared a glimpse of the joyous occasion on social media, stating,
"We had a wonderful time in Mallorca, the sunsets and the atmosphere were magical."
Privacy measures
True to the Schumacher family's unwavering commitment to protecting Michael's privacy, strict policies were reportedly enforced during the wedding.
Guests were required to surrender their mobile phones at the entrance, ensuring that no unauthorized photographs could be taken of the 55-year-old former driver.
This level of caution aligns with the family's approach since Schumacher's skiing accident in December 2013, which resulted in a severe head injury and months spent in a medically induced coma.
Since then, information about his condition and recovery has been carefully guarded.
Corinna Schumacher, Michael's wife, explained their stance in a 2021 Netflix documentary:
"Private is private, as he always said. It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.
Michael always protected us and now we are protecting Michael."
The Schumacher family's determination to maintain Michael's privacy is deeply rooted in his own preferences during his racing career. Corinna elaborated,
"What he really didn't like was the press, the people, all the hype around him. That's not what he wanted. He wanted to do the sport."
This sentiment echoes throughout Schumacher's illustrious career, where his focus remained steadfastly on his performance on the track rather than the media circus that often surrounded him.
