Sargeant secures Williams drive for 2024
Logan Sargeant signs with Williams for 2024 F1 drive; team has “great confidence” in American's abilities after rookie season demonstrated fundamental speed and development potential.
American rookie Logan Sargeant has signed a contract extension with Williams Racing, confirming his place on the Formula 1 grid for next season.
The team believes Sargeant has demonstrated the raw pace and continued development to warrant retention, citing “great confidence in his abilities” to achieve joint success in 2024.
A season of learning
While securing just a solitary point in his maiden grand prix campaign, Sargeant’s rookie year has been one of valuable education.
Crucial experience was gained through exposed weaknesses and costly errors, lessons the young American vows to build upon next season.
Sargeant endured several heavy crashes during 2023, including notable hits at Silverstone and Mexico City.
However, Williams maintains the American has shown necessary improvement and learning during mistakes to justify their continued backing.
Sargeant’s standout moment came on home soil, capturing the final point for 10th in an attritional 2022 United States Grand Prix.
The first American to score in Formula 1 for 30 years, it was a breakthrough result for Sargeant’s self-belief and profile.
Williams boss praises potential
Announcing Sargeant’s 2024 contract, Team Principal James Vowles affirmed his belief in the American’s abilities, saying: “Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team.”
Vowles confirmed he extensively reviewed Sargeant’s 2023 data before deciding he warrants further opportunity to realise his full potential at F1’s pinnacle.
Reacting to his new deal, an elated Sargeant said he’s “thrilled to be continuing with Williams” into next season.
Outlining ambitions to keep contributing to the team’s success in 2024, he’s excited by their “plans for the future” together.
Both driver and team recognise continuity and experience building are crucial as Sargeant aims to maximise performance with greater consistency next year.
