Mercedes F1 unveils £70 million campus redevelopment
Mercedes has unveiled grand plans for a comprehensive reconfiguration of its Brackley Formula 1 factory. The aim is to evolve the factory into a state-of-the-art, Silicon Valley-style campus, nestled within parkland and prioritising pedestrian-friendly spaces.
A High-Tech Campus Vision
This forward-looking development, backed by a £70 million investment into infrastructure and staff, envisages the creation of new marketing buildings, leisure facilities, and restaurants.
These are all intended to enhance the overall working environment of the team.
In addition to the structural improvements of the main Brackley factory, the team envisions the new campus, slated for completion by the end of 2025, as offering something unparalleled in F1.
Team principal Toto Wolff said: “The Brackley campus was built to accommodate 350 people, and today we are at 1,250.
"The development of the campus over the last five years was done at an astonishing pace and this now looks like an F1 team with modern state-of-the-art facilities."
The Future is People-Focused
Mercedes views its people and the environment in which they operate as vital to long-term success in F1.
Therefore, the proposed amenities at the Brackley facility are seen as crucial to this vision. Wolff added: “All of this is obviously done for our people. We're not trying to win some kind of architectural prize.
This is not like some of our competitors did 20 years ago where you are getting lost and probably emphasising more the architecture. Here form follows function, it is not the other way around."
Over 30 different projects have been undertaken on-site to improve facilities. £40 million has already been invested, with another £30 million committed for the forthcoming phases of development.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with the team’s NetZero targets, factory improvements will also include a significant shift towards sustainability.
They will be powered by 100% renewable energy from onsite and offsite sources, and a new car park will feature an on-site solar array.
Efforts are also being made to encourage biodiversity in the area and ensure the use of reusable and recyclable materials in new construction wherever possible. Mercedes is also striving to achieve a recycling target of greater than 60% for office waste.
